How to use your Walking Stick for Self Defense?
The best thing about a walking stick is that an attacker won’t see it as a tool for self-defense. Most of the time, walking sticks have been counted as mobility aid among older people or adults with disabilities. But it’s more than a mobility device. Even during ancient times, walking sticks helped people in shooing away enemies. Or, you could remember how hard your grandmother or grandfather poked you with canes whenever you went against them. How to use your walking stick for self-defense?
Only guns and knives aren’t self-defense devices. You can tackle enemies or attackers through a walking stick too. Additionally, you can carry a walking cane, and no one would recognize it as a self-defense mechanism amidst security checkpoints. You’ll be questioned if security guards find knives and guns, though you argue if it’s for your own accord.
A walking stick is more than a mobility device.
Suppose an invader is trying to hit you over your head. You have switched on your sixth sense but bear no defense device- be it gun, knife, sword, or OC spray. There’s only a walking stick, and you know what to do. Face towards the direction of the attacker and grasp the rod at both of its rear ends. Use it as a shield and block the powerful blows in exchange. Now, reposition to the center, push down the stick with your left hand such that its length crashes down the attacker’s weapon. Consequently, the action will hurt the invader’s hand painfully or lower the weapon in the case. It’s the best opportunity to hit the weak spot of the attacker, isn’t it?
What if an invader bends forwards and applies his plan B rule? You can force the stick at an upward angle to the throat, face, or solar plexus. As a result, they will be thrown backward; it is the time when you can thrust powerful punches or kicks at weak areas. They won’t be able to stand upright and fight back; hence you can make time to escape and ask for help. Or, plot plan B before an unfortunate event.

Want to learn cool moves, which is also a self-defense tactic?
- Lower the walking stick to the height of the solar plexus
- Push the stick with both hands and aim it at an upward angle while taking a couple of strides
- Release the grip of the left hand such that the stick swings to and fro with both hands’ exertion
- Then, aim a quick hand swing towards the attacker’s knees or tibia or the hand with weapons.
- Again aim the rapid swing towards the same area so that the attacker doesn’t have a chance to stand upright or make a move readily.
- Move down your stick and stay in the guard position.
So, what’s the guard position?
Stand shoulder-width apart, lift the walking stick to a certain angle by gripping its rear end. In the case of right-handed people, grasp the stick with the left hand. Place the right elbow close to your right hip and the crest of the stick ahead of your eye. It’s a guard position where a cane carries off a shield character and protects people from possible attacks.
Can a walking stick cause pain to attackers?
Yes, it does. A cane causes serious injuries when used as a defense tool. You can hit the bone of the aggressor and runoff or ask for help. If you manage to grasp technical form, you can grapple, takedown, joint lock, or thrash the attacker in the nick of time.
What can you do with a walking stick to cause intense pain to attackers? You can crush their feet with the tip of the cane. Also, you can hit a solid blow to the throat, face, head, kidneys, and knees. It confines them to fall back to the ground and take more than a minute to stand upright. Or, use the curved handle to tangle the attacker’s limb while you can bribe the time to run away from the attack.
Choose a walking stick for .self-defense
A walking stick is a lifesaver if you are well-known for self-defense techniques. Or, you could choose to purchase a shocking electric stick, gun cane, and sword/hammer cane. When you aren’t confident in martial art skills, you can push away enemies from the electric rod. Then, there comes a gun cane, which is illegal in many states. You can’t carry them to security checkpoints either. Your gun cane can be confiscated.
Similar is the case with a sword cane; security guards can detect them easily. You can’t travel abroad with both a gun cane and a sword stick because of legal issues. Some folks won’t know what lies inside the walking stick unless they are revealed. Even the head of the sword won’t be visible when you hold it. If you don’t yearn to fall in illegal events, don’t go for gun canes or sword sticks, instead learn tactical self-defense and save yourselves. All that matters is you.
